The HGE-12 Block Detector Unit is a commercially manufactured printed circuit board designed for Train Detection in a given block. The board unit is designed as a stand alone unit which will operate without additional system boards or items.

The HGE-12 Block Detector will detect a TRAIN (engine), LIGHTED CAR, or a Car equipped with a 1000 to 2000 ohm resistance across the wheel set. Detection is accomplished by current flow through the rails from the throttle furnishing power to the engine of the block. The Through-The-Rail detection provides detection occupancy throughout the entire block.

The HGE-12 Block Detector operates on 12 to 14 Volts AC or DC for board power to control a board mounted relay. No special power supply is required. No board power is introduced onto the track or relay contacts.

The HGE-12 Block Detector is compatible with all types of train power, including Standard DC throttles, DCC systems, Sound throttles, and AC throttles. The HGE-12 Block Detector can be incorporated into existing detection systems as a replacement unit or expansion detector.

DPDT Relay. The Board Mounted Relay provides electrical switching connections for devices which you wish to control. This DPDT Relay is like a toggle switch which allows you to attach the power or switching methods you want to control. The switching can control signals, trackside devices, track power for stopping blocks for trains, and computer interfaces inputs. Any device which you want switched ON and OFF when a train is detected in the block can be wired to the HGE-12 Block Detector relay connections.

The HGE-12 Block Detector provides 3 isolated sectors on the detector which prevents any electrical connection between the sectors. The Track power is isolated from the board power and the Relay switching contacts are isolated from both. This isolation of sectors reduces electrical shorts and the board can detect trains using Standard DC, DCC, Sound, or AC track power to operate your train. The HGE-12 Block Detector is compatible with all throttles.

The HGE-12 Block Detector is available as a KIT (875812) or Fully ASSEMBLED (875912). Complete instructions are included with each model and includes examples for device wiring.

The HGE-12 Block Detector can be installed into you existing track wiring, or installed in new constructions. Compatible with other detection methods the HGE-12 Block Detector can be used as a replacement unit for non-working detectors.
